“Pierrot”. [Erotica] Seduction
"Jeunes Amours Au Chateau, A La Pension.."
En Vente Partout et Nulle Part (For Sale, Everywhere and Nowhere), 1910.
8vo. Mid blue calf over marbled boards, ruled in gilt to spine and boards, brown title label. Top edge gilt. 251pp. Internally clean, marbled endpapers, rather elegant Egyptianate head and tail pieces to chapters. A very good copy. In French. Aside from the usual preoccupation of the genre with secluded pavilions and bowers (stopping short of the other extreme of clandestine literature; the ‘gentleman’s’ artfully constructed secret sex room, probably best exemplified by the classic “A Man With A Maid” where there’s basically a sex Tardis with an unfeasible number of screens and peep holes, not to mention a kind of BDSM Laz-E-Boy chair into which the hero’s objects of desire can be secured...it’s not a genre overly concerned with satiating the laws of physics), it’s a little more blunt linguistically than many contemporaries, and was undoubtedly required reading for contemporary bottom fetishists, points removed for overuse of the word “dilated”, but that might just be me. A handsomely bound piece of early 20th century smut.
